How to Embed a Google Form in WordPress
Collecting data from your visitors has never been easier, thanks to Google Forms. Whether you want to gather applications for a job opening, quiz your students, or find out if people prefer Damien Rice over Bon Iver, Google Forms are just the tool you need.
In this guide, we’ll introduce you to Google Forms and show you how to easily embed a Google Form to your WordPress website. The topics we’ll elaborate on include:
Google Forms is a survey tool that lets you collect information from people by creating polls, registration forms, and RSVPs. It’s part of the G Suite, a collection of Google products that also includes Sheets, Docs, Gmail, Hangouts, etc.
There’s a wide variety of templates to choose from, all fully customizable. You can add the content you want, including questions, images, and even videos, as well as change colors, font styles, and much more.
If you wish, you can send the answers directly to a spreadsheet. And since spreadsheets are linked to your form, the responses will appear in real-time and will be automatically saved. To analyze and summarize the results, you can use charts, as well as graphs.
Google Forms are an online tool, which means that whoever you decide to share your form with can work and collaborate on it.
WordPress comes with numerous form plugins that have similar functionalities as Google Forms. But we’re prone to give advantage to Google Forms because you can use the same form on several WordPress websites, add it to email lists, share them on your Facebook page, and have all the responses stored in the cloud, on your Google Drive account.
WordPress does offer many plugins that help you create forms, but you would have to find one plugin for your WordPress website, another one for Facebook, a different one for emails, and so forth. And then, you would have to gather and combine all the responses on your own, manually.
To start making your own form, go directly to Google Forms or log into your Drive and find Google Forms, and then choose a template.
Now, it’s time to give your form a title, and, depending on what kind of survey you’re conducting, add other necessary details. Google Forms also enables you to reuse questions you’ve made in other forms, so you don’t have to create everything from scratch every single time.
As we mentioned earlier, you can modify the look and feel of forms according to your requirements. If you need them for business purposes, it’s easy to make them fit the tone of your brand.
Not only does Google Form pack a myriad of customization elements to choose from, but you can upload your own images as well and use them in your forms.
Now that you’ve successfully designed your form, you can share it with others via email, through a direct link, by embedding it on a website, or you can post it on social media. To access these options, click on the Send button at the upper right corner of the page.
Our goal is to add a Google Form to our WordPress website. The easiest and fastest way to do that is to embed the form’s iframe code on your website. To get the code, click on the angle brackets. Then, copy the code.
Next, head over to your WordPress website and go to the post or page that you want to add the form to. Open the HTML text editor and paste the iframe code.
To see what the form will look like on your website, press the Preview button.
If you’re happy with the final result, don’t forget to click on Save.
One final note: avoid installing the Google Forms plugin that’s still available in the WordPress plugin directory. It used to be popular back in the day, but we advise you not to use it because it hasn’t been updated for over 2 years nor has it been tested with the latest three versions of WordPress.
