What this means is that when people visit your site and they want to post a comment, their gravatar image will be automatically displayed. But what happens if a user doesn\u2019t have a gravatar account? Well, then a default gravatar image will be displayed next to their username. How to Change Gravatars in WordPress<\/h2>\n

It\u2019s gender-neutral, which is neat, but that\u2019s pretty much all there is to it. However, you as an administrator can make the Mystery Person go away and set another image as the default gravatar.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”28px”][vc_column_text]For starters, head over to your dashboard and go to Settings > Discussion<\/strong>. Scroll down a bit, and under the section Avatars<\/strong><\/em> look for the Default Avatar<\/strong><\/em> option.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”28px”][vc_column_text]Here you\u2019ll see the default gravatars you can choose from. Some look rather fun and colorful, but what if you want to use some other image as the default gravatar on your site? Sadly, there\u2019s no such option in the WordPress core, but there\u2019s a solution to this as well. The WP User Avatar Plugin<\/h2>\n

The free version enables you to set any image of your choice as the default gravatar<\/strong>. In case you wish to use your own avatars only, you can disable gravatars<\/a> altogether. Furthermore, Contributors<\/em> and Subscribers<\/em> can upload their own avatars.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”28px”][vc_column_text]There\u2019s also the pro version of WP User Avatar plugin<\/a> which comes with lots of additional and useful options, such as allowing users to use their webcam to get instant avatars, etc.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”28px”][vc_column_text]But let\u2019s install the free version now and see what new options it provides. Go to your dashboard, and then select Plugins > Add New<\/strong><\/em>. In the search bar at the right side of the screen type in WP User Avatar<\/em> and once you find the plugin, click on Install<\/em>.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”28px”][vc_column_text]Now, take a look at the menu at the left-hand side of the screen. You\u2019ll notice there\u2019s a new option called Avatars<\/strong><\/em>.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”50px”]

\n \"Add <\/div>\n<\/div>[vc_empty_space height=”38px”][vc_column_text]If you enable it, then other WordPress user roles<\/a> (such as Admins, Editors, etc.) will have the option to upload their own avatar as opposed to using the default one. All you have to do is tick this box, and then users will be able to go to Users > Your Profile<\/strong><\/em> and upload the picture they wish to use as their avatar in the Avatar<\/em> section.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”50px”]

\n \"Avatar <\/div>\n<\/div>[vc_empty_space height=”38px”][vc_column_text]Now, let\u2019s head back to Avatars > Settings<\/strong><\/em> to see what other options there are.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”28px”][vc_column_text]In Avatars > Settings<\/strong><\/em>, you can also allow Contributors and Subscribers to add their own avatar<\/strong>. And you can disable Gravatars altogether if you wish to go with local avatars only<\/strong>.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”28px”][vc_column_text]In the Default Avatar<\/strong><\/em> section, there\u2019s the option to upload an image to your liking that\u2019ll be used as the default avatar for all users who don\u2019t already have a gravatar account, which is probably why you\u2019ve installed the plugin in the first place.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”50px”]

Keep in mind that there\u2019s no need to overdo it and use super large files. Those can significantly slow down your website, so it\u2019s for the best to resize images<\/a> before you upload them.
