There are several common scenarios that require you to regenerate the thumbnails for the images throughout your blog. If you’re currently in one such situation, read on and find out how.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1596057270002{padding-top: 68px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Why Regenerate Thumbnails

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]There are three common situations that warrant thumbnail regeneration. In all of them, the main issue is that the current thumbnail image size is not compatible with some changes you made and needs to be modified so that the thumbnail images look right throughout your blog.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”28px”][vc_column_text]Before we look into several scenarios that require regenerating thumbnails, let’s first talk about WordPress image sizes and thumbnails real quick.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”28px”][vc_column_text]WordPress has three image sizes that are set by default:[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”6px”]

    Thumbnail: 150px x 150px

    Medium: 300px x 300px

    Large: 1024px x 1024px

[vc_column_text]These are the maximum allowed width and height values. The preset values are necessary in order to maintain uniformity of the images you’re using on your website, whatever their actual dimensions.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”28px”][vc_column_text]You can change these values for each of the image sizes by navigating to Settings > Media and applying the width and height that suits you the best.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”28px”][vc_column_text]You’d think that by simply changing the values in the Media Settings all the images on your website would conform to the new settings. In most situations, you’d be right. After all, these are general settings and they apply to everything on your site.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”28px”][vc_column_text]However, there are situations when this doesn’t apply. And that’s precisely when you need to regenerate thumbnails. Here are the three most common scenarios we mentioned before:[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”38px”]

            1.
New theme. Let’s say you decided to freshen up your website and switch to one of the latest premium WordPress themes. When you change your theme, there is a chance it will come with completely different thumbnail size settings. All the images that you have uploaded and posted after installing the new theme will look okay, but the old ones will be blurred or skewed, too big or too small.

            2.
Theme update. Sometimes even if you don’t change the entire theme but just update the theme you’re using, the thumbnail size settings may change or simply not work anymore.

            3.
Changing the size in Media Settings. If, for any reason, you decide to change the thumbnail size in the Media Settings, you will most likely have to apply your changes to all previously uploaded pictures, otherwise there will be a huge difference between those and the new ones.

[vc_column_text]These three common situations can easily be solved by regenerating thumbnails. With this trick, all of your original images will conform to the new dimensions, whether they’re old images or ones you uploaded after making changes to the site or theme.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”81px”][vc_separator color=”custom” accent_color=”#f0f0f0″][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][vc_widget_sidebar sidebar_id=”bridge-banner”][vc_empty_space height=”48px”][vc_separator color=”custom” accent_color=”#f0f0f0″][vc_empty_space height=”80px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

How to Regenerate Thumbnails

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]While “regenerating thumbnails” probably sounds way too technical, it’s actually a quite simple process.
